About APWA

APWA is the American Public Works Association, a national organization of public works professionals. The event is put on by the Sacramento Chapter with members of local and State agencies, plus consultant employees and contractors. All bands have at least one member of an APWA-affiliated firm or agency.

The Sacramento Chapter of APWA, established in 1965, promotes education for public works and related fields through ongoing seminar programs and a successful scholarship program. In 1994, the Sacramento Chapter leadership vowed additional commitment to the education mission through creation of the EDUCATION ENDOWMENT FUND (EEF). The goal of the EEF is to provide additional educational opportunities and to enhance educational experiences in the public works field.

All proceeds from the APWA Music Festival benefit the EEF to provide grants to the engineering departments of four Sacramento Region universities:

  • California State University, Chico

  • California State University, Sacramento

  • University of California, Davis

  • University of the Pacific

To date, the EEF has donated nearly $250,000 to the above- mentioned Universities.

About APWA Music Festival

The idea to hold an APWA Music Festival came from Jeff Cox, an APWA member who realized a number of people in Public Works are also musicians. The first festival was held in 2017 and 300 people were in attendance to see 5 bands. In 2018, the second festival hosted 6 bands with 500 people in attendance.
